MIND-BODY PSYCHOTHERAPY

for Highly-Sensitive People

MEETING THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF HSPs, CREATIVES & INTROVERTS

YOU’RE AT A CROSSROADS…SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE & YOUR ANXIETY IS AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH…

some might call it “BURNOUT”

I assist clients to uncover patterns that result in feeling stuck & together we disengage the trap of trying to “think your way out” of your anxiety.

time to exhale…

I don’t think I’m “out on a limb” to presume if you are an HSP looking for therapy that you have been researching, trying things, learning & trying your best for years…Likely, your entire life!

AND you’ve actually done some impressive healing work mostly on your own & likely have helped many friends & family to heal some of their wounds along the way. I know your story & I’ve lived that story.

Now it’s time for you! Let me support you in what you haven’t figured out, the places you feel stuck & move out of the stress cycles you experience.

areas of “stuck”

You’ve always felt different as well as a long history of being told you’re too….sensitive, emotional, etc…but, underneath it all you have the ability to track things others seem oblivious to & a depth of thinking that excites you (& possibly distracts you…).

The real issue is that you’ve barely found a way to benefit from your natural abilities to notice details others do not, so you find yourself living in your head, settling for less than your biggest dreams, feeling both overstimulated (sensory-wise) & under-stimulated (intellectually & spiritually).

The over-stimulation you feel in your body creates anxiety, panic, numbness, lack of deep sleep & lack of relaxation to the extent that you spend the little energy you have on simply trying to create self-care routines that barely put a dent in your feeling of burn-out & body tension.

You want to make a change, but don’t know where to begin & you find few people who can offer helpful insights to meet your unique concerns. In short, you spend alot of time “spinning your wheels.”

psychotherapy can help…

body-centric approach

The work we do together includes awareness of the body: breath, movement & posture. Cognitive knowledge & learning are amazing, but including the body in psychotherapy ensures that ALL parts of you feel safe in the therapy room. The body knows exactly what pace to move for there to be room for change.

Many of us have moved away from the body & are over-riding our instincts. This work is about listening & reconnecting to how & what the body knows.

addressing sensory challenges

Many HSPs experience heightened sensory gifts & challenges. We can address these sensory dynamics in a way that helps transform them into assets rather than pain-inducing set-backs. Boundary building, mindfulness practice, somatic skills-building for nervous system regulation are a part of the work we do together.

In addition, I offer the Safe & Sound Protocol as an intervention to address auditory sensitivities & more.

psychotherapy for HSPs

The focus in my practice is working with Highly-Sensitive People. Being an HSP myself, we explore the ups & downs of this trait. High Sensitivity is a trait one is born with & includes heightened sensory perception, higher levels of empathy & a rich internal, mental life. While these traits have immense positives, they can also create vulnerabilities.

I offer tools to help with embodiment of HSP gifts & identify misinterpretation of HSP traits.

YBiY is for HSPs & people who…

  • adding somatic practices & parts integration can make a big difference for HSPs who are able to “stay in their heads” with traditional counseling

  • we first work with nervous-system tools to address the ups & downs

  • creating boundaries is a great first step & safe & sound protocol is an additional option for auditory challenges

  • Weak boundaries impact every part of our lives & well-being. Addressing this can be a “game-changer”

  • Stress doesn’t help any illness heal or improve symptoms. Learning stress reduction techniques, making boundaries & learning to listen to one’s body is the least we can do to feel better or possibly go into remission with autoimmune disorders/diseases.

  • HSPs can develop a highly sophisticated mental life that sometimes works against them…making connections & conclusions that are not true or helpful

  • Social media interaction is a huge source of anxiety & low mood. There is also ample research of layers of negative impact including shortening attention spans.

Screen time is a major problematic factor in increasing sleep issues & addictive behavior.

If you’re having trouble leaving social media once & for all or know that you regularly use your phone to distract & pacify yourself, it will be worth addressing.

more about high-sensitivity…

High Sensitivity (sensory processing sensitivity/SPS) is a trait one is born with & is not a disorder or something one “gets rid of.” HSPs have many gifts, but can also experience higher levels of trauma, anxiety, people-pleasing & difficulty holding boundaries.

YOUR BODY IS YOU

If you feel stuck & overwhelmed, your Body is key to Transformation.
